Spay Positive. Aside from the obvious result of helping to reduce overpopulation – PETA estimates there are around 60-100 million stray cats living in the United Sates alone – spaying or neutering your cat has many secondary benefits. Spaying nearly eliminates the risk for mammary cancer in females and entirely eliminates their chances of developing uterine and ovarian cancers. Neutered male cats loss their urge to inappropriately spray, roam outside, and fight with other cats. Removing sexual competition between cats also reduces the spread of FIV and leukemia, which can be transmitted through biting.
