Did not have a garden this year. Taking a break for the soil and the work involved. Will be buying produce from local neighbors as needed. Bought 50 pounds of tomatoes from local vendor to do some canning and restock the tomatoes that are so often used in chili. Did 25 pounds of Roma type into sauce and put in the freezer since it did not make enough to water bath and can into jars. Did three water bath canner loads of tomatoes quarters. The shelves are restocked now. Don’t think I will be doing any more canning this year.
Found several cases of old quart wire and bail jars in the top of the barn. Am still trying to sort through all of the boxes that are stored in the barn and got wet before we had a new metal roof put on the barn.
Washed up one case of quart jars to give to the neighbor that sells cuts flowers for her use in selling flowers at the farmers market. She also sells “cut your own” flowers. Since we seem to now have a habit of buying a flower arrangement from her every week she said she would welcome the jars.
Found several old blue canning jars and some old bottles as well. Will explore if they have any value or might be of interest to collectors.
Might only have canning of some pears this year. Had no apples at all this year.
